High blood pressure is sometimes called the “silent killer.” As you’ll hear in personal stories like this one, many people lead perfectly healthy, active lives, never realizing they are hypertensive—sometimes, until it’s too late. Monitoring your blood pressure is the first step in championing OMRON’s #90toZero movement. Success to us means zero heart attacks and zero strokes. Join our team – we are all “Heroes for Zero.”

Taking the 90 Day Blood Pressure Challenge

The 90 Day Blood Pressure Challenge starts simply by committing to checking your blood pressure daily. Many people never even experience symptoms, so once they start checking their blood pressure, they are surprised to discover they are hypertensive. The good news is, positive lifestyle changes will impact your blood pressure. Here’s how to start:

  • Check your blood pressure daily
  • Record and track your numbers

Awareness is step one. You can take the Challenge further by:

Why blood pressure?

High blood pressure (hypertension) can lead to stroke and heart disease. The numbers for stroke in particular are alarming:

  • Almost 800,000 people have strokes every year
  • Every 4 minutes someone dies from stroke
  • Stroke is the leading cause of adult disability in the U.S.
  • 80% of strokes are preventable

Hypertension crosses genders and ethnic groups indiscriminately, but targets women over 65 and African-Americans at higher rates, for reasons we don’t entirely understand.

Testing your own blood pressure

The health bloggers and influencers joining the 90 Day Blood Pressure Challenge are using the Evolv® home health monitor by OMRON. Many pharmacy chains also offer blood pressure monitoring.
