The First Signs of Stroke and When to Act FAST

Recognizing the early signs of stroke can make a huge difference in properly responding to a stroke emergency. Know when to act FAST!

 

Early signs of stroke, and when to act fast:

  • Confusion
  • Severe headache
  • Weakness
  • Numbness or tingling
  • Vision Changes
  • Vertigo or lost of balance
  • Nausea, and/or vomiting

If you see these early signs of stroke, remember to act FAST:

  • Face: Make sure their face is symmetrical
  • Arms: Can they lift both arms?
  • Speech: Do they sound slurred or strange?
  • Time: Call 9-1-1 immediately

Remember if you’re ever in doubt, it’s better to be overly cautious.

What are mini-strokes?

Transient Ischemic Attacks (TIAs) can happen a week before a stroke. The symptoms last only a few minutes, but FAST still applies. If this has happened to you, or someone you know, get checked immediately!
